Readings for Week of Sept 30th
For those students having trouble finding a copy of Marcus’ anthology, I found some of the sources available on the internet. Some were available on the Google Books edition of Marcus’ anthology while others are scans from another university. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing these. There are also a number of copies of the sourcebook in the library system.
Primary sources:
#38 – Jewish Autonomy in Babylon, c. 1168 [also as a pdf]
#57 – Saadia, 882-942 [pdf]
#58 – Paltiel of Egypt, about 952-976
#59 – Samuel Ha-Nagid
#62 – Maimonides [pdf]
#73 – A Jewish Merchant in Arabia
#75 – Maimonides on Art & Charity [pdf]

i have discovered, to my horror, that my primary source book is missing pages 417 to 448. This book was purchased from the U of T bookstore, and i intend to return and exchange it for a complete version. there must be fellow students in the same predicament. it may be that the entire printing run of this book is incomplete.

Hi Henry,
Thanks for posting this. I checked my copy and mine is complete; hopefully it affected only a small number of books.
I’ve stopped by the bookstore today and they told me that they ordered more books about a week ago and these should be coming in this week. So keep an eye at the store or call them at 416-640-5840
Cheers,
